Challenge

Create a presentation deck for Life is Living (LiL), a long-running Oakland-based celebration of art, environmental justice, and community. The deck needed to visually represent LiL's deep-rooted cultural history while making a compelling case to potential donors and community partners. It was essential to maintain strong visual ties to the event’s past materials, incorporating iconic imagery from previous festivals, while modernizing the design to capture the dynamic, evolving nature of LiL. The deck had to evoke the spirit of Oakland’s diverse community, resonate emotionally with stakeholders, and highlight LiL’s continued impact and mission.

Outcome

The presentation deck used a blend of nostalgic film textures and pastel color pairings combined with bold, modern tones to capture the vibrancy and diversity of Oakland's community. Images of Oakland residents were featured prominently, evoking a sense of local pride and connection. Isolated images with contrasting color blocks helped create a dynamic, yet cohesive design that emphasized the theme, "Life is Living: Celebrating Oakland Life." The design choices reflected both the rich legacy of Life is Living and its continued relevance in promoting environmental justice and community unity.
