Challenge

People’s Climate Innovation Center, a Black-led organization partnering with grassroots leaders, government agencies, and philanthropic groups, needed a logo and visual identity that reflected BIPOC cultural aesthetics while evoking themes of climate, nature, and collaboration. The design had to feel bold, vibrant, and rooted in shared histories, incorporating symbols of connection such as weaving, mandalas, and natural patterns. After establishing the brand identity, I was tasked with designing a full suite of materials, including print collateral, social media assets, and a website that would serve as an interactive hub for their community.

Outcome

The brand identity for People’s Climate Innovation Center blends cultural heritage with modern innovation, creating a bold and dynamic visual system. The logo was inspired by traditional lightning motifs found in indigenous woven baskets from the Pima people and Uganda, symbolizing power and interconnectedness. Iridescent hues—inspired by nature’s shells and feathers as well as technological elements like holograms and microchips—reflect the fusion of ancestral wisdom and forward-thinking climate solutions. Organic shapes like spirals and woven patterns reinforce themes of synergy, movement-building, and community relationships. A flexible brand system, including print, digital, and social media assets, ensures consistency and impact. The website, built with a CMS, allows PCIC to easily update content, share insights, and promote events, making it an evolving hub for its network.
